Ignorance & Oedipus

Choosing to not voice your own opinion and ignoring the truth about the issue that needs to be taken care of, ultimately causes the issue to escalate. For example, right this instance there is a lot of poverty in Jamaica. As matter of fact, more than half of the country of Jamaica is suffering from poverty (Alterman 1). The majority of people would hear about this tragic problem and wouldn't do one thing about it and just ignore it and go on with there life. There are more than plenty of ways to take a stand and reach out to help the country of Jamaica, instead being ignorant about the situation. In the book Oedipus, Oedipus always knew and realized the truth, but always chose to avoid the true matter of what he really did. In the book, he knew the whole time that he killed his father but, decided to ignore the situation and marry his own mother anyway. Ignoring or being ignorant to a situation always leads to something worse. As a whole, no one should be ignorant over poverty, which is such a drastic problem . Fix it while it is there!

  1. It's vey hard to believe people live in such poverty in third world countries. It is very easy for those in the US to ignore the situation in Jamaica because Jamaica is always seen as a vacation destination. Thank you for bringing this issue to the forefront through your blog.
