Taking action & Night

Stand up and start taking action against poverty in Jamaica today! When something bad is happening in this world, people just stand around watching, waiting to see the results. Instead, maybe for a little change, people can be a part of the event instead of just observing from a far. This doesn't mean just give money and be done with it; it means taking the extra steps to make a difference. Travel to the poor towns and cities in Jamaica, collect items from your school to take to the people, and get involved with organizations that send aid directly to those affected (Durand 1). There are plenty of ways to make an impact, starting with one person taking action. "I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take side. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented" (Elie Weisel). In the book Night, throughout the book Elie Weisel expresses the importance to speak out. It just goes to show, that taking a stand for something that is really important and needs change is lacking in the world, but can be fixed so easily. It all starts with one person and their passion to help the world.

  1. This is a great representation of what a small action can do. As a volunteer worker you can easily see the way small steps go a long way, even if you don't see the impact right away. It's nice to see that there is action being taken through word like in this blog. The quote from the book Night was really eye opening and true. It's good to see more than 1 person with the hope to see change.

  2. Little actions can help and go a long way. Volunteering is something that you can do to help out and you will see a result down the line. Putting this in a blog is a good way to get the word out to make a change. The quote from Night gave me a better perspective on life and situations that happen everyday. It's always good to see people with ideas that want to help and to see a change.

  3. This is so true, twenty dollars to us is a lot different than 20 dollars to a jamaican family. If everybody would give a little, it would make a huge difference. - James Larsen.
