Respect All & Things Fall Apart

Beliefs about superiority and inferiority are destructive; respect all people. In society, it is common to believe that people with the most money, nicest clothes, and overall wonderful life are superior to those who aren't; however, this is false and it is inhuman for someone to judge someone off of how they live. People in Jamaica are discriminated agasint because they don't have the necessaties that most Americans have. From the looks of it, it appears as if they don't because pictures, videos, and even books prove to the people of the United States, they're living conditions are much different. "Urban poverty is often underestimated, unrecognized, and poorly understood (Urban Poverty Must Be Addressed).  Even though the Jamaicans are lving in harsher, more poverish conditions, doesn't mean they don't deserve to be treated equally as those in America. In the novel, Things Fall Apart, Chinua Achebe uses the troubled story of Okonkwo's tribe and their encounter with Christian missionaries, to teach the reader the value of respect for other cultures and societies. The Christian white men look down upon the Igbo culture because its different and strange to them; therefore, them thinking its inferior to theirs. Americans are just as guilty as the Europeans when it comes to poverty in Jamaica. The images shown in schools in the United States of Jamaica show so much ruin and destinution that it is automatically assumed, America is superior. Jamaica cannot become unpoverished if other nations don't give the country it deserves. The country needs motivation and support from others to help the society grow. Each and every country is about of the entire world and Jamaicans are worth more respect.

  1. The perception of Americans in Jamaica must be hard to deal with if you were born and raised in poverty all your life. All you see is 100 planes a day flying into your country to vacation at the best hotels, restaurants, and tourist attractions. You do not see poor Americans having the ability to vacation in jamaica. - Jay
